On our card

A serene black-haired rider on a white horse moves calmly forward at dawn, carrying a white banner marked with a mystic rose. Behind her, the sun rises between two towers, promising a new day beyond the ending.

Death upright — the meaning

Despite its name, Death almost never means physical death, and it is not a card to fear. It describes endings and transition, a chapter closing so a different one can begin. This card often points to something that has run its natural course, such as a role, routine, arrangement, or version of a plan, where release brings relief as well as sadness. The rider moves calmly and the sun rises in the image, suggesting dignity in change and something new, not yet fully visible, already approaching morning.

Death reversed — the meaning

Reversed, Death often points to an ending that is being delayed or resisted, usually for understandable reasons. Holding on to a situation that has quietly finished can itself become tiring. Sometimes a transition happens very gradually, in stages, which can feel untidy but still counts as real progress. Gentle honesty helps here: name what is actually over, allow any feelings that come with that honesty, and loosen a grip at a manageable pace. Release does not have to be sudden to be genuine. Small, steady letting go still counts.

Lunar lens — Dark Moon

The Dark Moon is the cycle's ending and resting place, the dark from which the New Moon is born, making it the natural home for release and renewal. Write down one thing you are finishing, and fold the paper away.
