On our card

A Black woman sits crowned between two pillars, her braids threaded with gold cuffs, holding an upright sword in one hand. Balanced scales rest in her other hand, level and steady, suggesting a decision weighed with care.

Justice upright — the meaning

Justice is about truth, fairness, and the consequences of choices, considered calmly and in the open. It often points to a decision that deserves careful weighing: gathering facts, hearing more than one side, and being honest about personal responsibility. Fairness begins at home, with promises kept to the self as faithfully as promises kept to others. The sword represents clarity, the relief of naming things accurately. Owning a mistake, making a fair repair, and adjusting future behaviour are presented here as strengths and a route back to balance.

Justice reversed — the meaning

Reversed, Justice often points to an imbalance not yet addressed, or a view of a situation that quietly favours one side. Accountability may be avoided, or a decision may have been made before facts were fully gathered. A slower, more honest review helps: check the numbers, reread the agreement, and listen to the perspective that feels least comfortable. Fairness includes the self, since being harder on oneself than evidence warrants also distorts balance. Correcting course once the full picture is clear is exactly how balance gets restored.
