On our card

A witch sits holding on tightly, one pentacle clutched to her chest, one balanced on her crown, and one resting on the stone at each of her feet, with the rooftops of a city behind her.

Four of Pentacles upright — the meaning

The Four of Pentacles reflects the wish to feel secure, and the careful holding that can come with it. Keeping a steady routine, protecting rest, and being thoughtful with resources can be sensible, grounding choices, especially after change. At the same time, the card gently asks whether holding on has become so tight that little can flow in or out. The invitation is not to release everything, but to notice the difference between thoughtful care and fearful gripping, and choose consciously.

Four of Pentacles reversed — the meaning

Reversed, the Four of Pentacles suggests a grip beginning to loosen, or a pattern of holding on that has become uncomfortable to maintain. It may invite reviewing habits around time, possessions, or sharing resources, and noticing where fear has been making the decisions. Sometimes it reflects generosity returning, or a new willingness to accept support once refused. Change here tends to be gradual: releasing one small thing, trusting someone a little more, or allowing one pleasure without guilt. Loosening is a practice.
